Section 5(a)1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being crushed by hydraulic automotive lifts: On or about 07/12/07, employees were exposed to a crushing hazard from the automotive lift in bay area 4 that had a defective locking mechanism device. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means of abatement is to institute regular inspection and maintenance for the care and use of automotive lifts in accordance with ANSI Standard B153.1-1990 Section 4.1.11 Automotive Lifts: Locking Device. PLEASE NOTE: CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION OF ABATEMENT IS NOT REQUIRED FOR THIS VIOLATION.
