Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to burns due to the ignition of gasoline:
a)  Facility - 180 Route 46, Denville:
Employees were exposed to burns due to the ignition of gasoline vapors.
On or about 7/3/07, employees were exposed to burns from the ignition of
gasoline vapor while
transferring gasoline from a vehicle fuel tank to a container located on a
makeshift stand when
an unapproved drop light fell into spilled gasoline.
Violation disclosed on or about 7/5/2007.
Feasible methods of abatement include but are not limited to:
1) Providing an approved gas caddy and training the employees in the
proper methods of
gasoline removal into approved containers, by use of an approved portable
pump, as required
in NFPA 30A, Motor Fuel Dispensing facilities & Repair Garages 2003
edition and follow
recommendations in the shop manual from vehicle manufacturer.
2) Provide portable drop lights that are suitable for use where class I
flammable liquids are
present in the work processes.
