Section 6(a) of the Puerto Rico Occupational Safety and Health Act:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards
that were causing or likely to cause death or physical harm to employees
in that employees
were exposed to:

El patrono no
proveyo empleo y un sitio de empleo libre de riesgos reconocidos que esten
causando o que
puedan causar muerte o dano fisico a los empleados, por cuanto empleados
estaban expuestos
a:
At the Headquarters Criminal Investigation Police Area located in
Santurce,
where
employees work as police officers, it was documented improper use of the
commercial product Glade in aerosol spray when one of the agents pointed
the aerosol
to the floor in an area nearby the desk of the affected agent and sprayed
a large
ammount of the product in the single spot, the affected agent inhaled
large quantity of
the product and resulted with serious health problems.  The directions for
use of the
product specified to hold can upright, press button and spray toward
center of room.
Warning specifies that product should not be misused for the purpose of
concentrating
because inhaling the contents can cause harmful or fatal effects.
Among other methods, a feasible method to correct this risk is to not use
these
products in closed offices where there is no ventilation.
Hazards: Contact and inhalation with gases, vapors and fumes from chemical
products.
En la Comandancia de Area en Investigaciones Criminales de la Policia de
Puerto
Rico localizada en Santurce, donde los empleados trabajan como agentes de
la policia
de PR, se documento que por el uso inapropiado del producto comercial de
tipo
aerosol Glade cuando un agente apunto hacia el piso en un area cercana del
escritorio
de la agente afectada y rocio en un punto fijo una gran cantidad del
producto, la
agente afectada inhalo gran cantidad del producto y resulto con serios
problemas de
salud.  Las instrucciones de uso del producto especifican que la lata debe
ser
sostenida en posicion vertical, presionar el boton y ser rociado en el
centro de la
habitacion. Precaucion del producto especifica que no debe utilizarse
indebidamente
con el proposito de concentrar porque inhalar el contenido puede ocasionar
efectos
perjudiciales o fatales.
Entre otros metodos, un metodo factible para corregir este riesgo es no
utilizar
este
tipo de productos en oficinas cerradas donde no haya una buena ventilacion.
Riesgos: Contacto e inhalacion de gases, vapores y humo de productos
quimicos.
