Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck-by by wooden trusses improperly braced: a/ At the job site, employees had temporarily braced 50 yellow pine trusses with a single row of 2 X 4 lumber installed near the peak. Each truss measured approximately 35 feet in width with a pitch of 5:12. One method of abatement to correct this apparent hazard is to comply with the directions required by BCSI- B2, Summary Sheet, Truss Installation & Temporary Restraint/Bracing. This document requires that trusses of this size and pitch be braced with a minimum of six rows of 2 X 4 bracing in conjunction with diagonal rows of 2 X 4 bracing placed every 20 feet. DISCLAIMER: a) The employer is not limited to the abatement method(s) suggested by OSHA. b) The employer is responsible for selecting and implementing an effective abatement method. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION AND ABATEMENT VERIFICATION ARE REQUIRED FOR THIS VIOLATION.ON
