Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not
furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment
which are free from
recognized hazards that are causing or likely to cause death  or serious
physical harm to his
employees in that employees were exposed to:
(a) Auto repair shop: On or about March 9, 2010 and at times prior
thereto, employees were
exposed to a struck by hazard while elevating vehicles using Air Over
Hydraulic lifts without
swing arm telescoping stops on the lifting arms.
(b) Auto repair shop: On or about March 9, 2010 and at times prior
thereto, employees were
exposed to a struck by hazard while elevating vehicles using an air over
hydraulic single post
lift without an effective emergency stop.
(c) Auto repair shop: On or about March 9, 2010 and at times prior
thereto, employees were
exposed to a struck by hazard while elevating vehicles using various lifts
with
the lack of
documented annual inspections performed by a certified lift inspector.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct the
hazards noted is to
follow the requirements in ANSI/ALI ALOIM 2008 which include, among other
requirements, the following:
1.    Institute a preventive maintenance program according to the
manufacturer's
specifications.
2.    Schedule and complete all periodic and annual inspections.
