Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: the employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards that are causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) Auto repair shop: On or about March 25, 2010 and at times prior thereto, employees were exposed to a struck by and crushing hazard while elevating vehicles using a two post Quality Lift with a missing floor anchor bolt. (b) Auto repair shop: On or about March 25, 2010 and at times prior thereto, employees were exposed to a struck by and crushing hazard while elevating vehicles using a four post Pro-Lift without affixed safe lifting instructions. Abatement Note: Abatement certification and documentation is required for this item. Abatement Note: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct the hazards noted is to follow the requirements in ANSI/ALI ALOIM 2008 which include, among other requirements, the following: 1. Institute a preventive maintenance program according to the manufacturer's specifications. 2. Provide training to employees on proper use and care of the lifts. 3. Schedule and complete all periodic and annual inspections.
