Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not
furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment
which are free from
recognized hazards that are causing or likely to cause death  or serious
physical harm to his
employees in that employees were exposed to:
(a) Auto detail shop: On or about April 13, 2010 and at times prior
thereto, employees were
exposed to a struck by and crushing hazard while elevating vehicles using
Challenger lift
#3914690 without functioning locks on the lifting arms.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct the
hazards noted is to
follow the requirements in ANSI/ALI ALOIM 2008 which include, among other
requirements, the following:
1.    Institute a preventive maintenance program according to the
manufacturer's
specifications.
2.    Provide training to employees on proper use and care of the lifts.
3.    Schedule and complete all periodic and annual inspections and make
repairs as needed.
Abatement Note:  Abatement certification and documentation is required for
this item.
