Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to struck by/caught by hazards:
(a)Jobsite, 600 Thomas Street, Monroeville, PA:  On or about 1/4/08 the
trusses associated
with the 48' x 60' building collapsed.  The trusses were not installed in
accordance with BCSI
1-03 in that an adequate number of top chord temporary lateral bracing was
not used.   The span
of the trusses was approximately 49'6" and only had one row of top chord
lateral bracing per
run side.  BCSI 1-03 recommends that top chord temporary lateral bracing
be installed every 6'
on truss spans of 45-60 feet.
Among other methods, on feasible and acceptable means to correct the
hazard is to install the
trusses in accordance with BCSI 1-03.
