Health Act of North Carolina:  The
employer did not furnish each of his employees conditions of employment
and a place of employment free from
recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious
physical harm to employees in that
employees were exposed to electrical hazards while living in a temporary
migrant labor camp:
a) Three trailers comprising a temporary labor camp located at 4403
Allensville Road, Roxboro, NC-- Three
trailers were being occupied by six migrant farm workers while the
following electrical hazards were present:
Light fixtures and electrical outlets not sufficiently secured to walls
and/or ceilings, allowing for live
wires to be exposed.
Five electrical outlets, located less than six feet from water sources in
the kitchens and bathrooms of the
front and middle trailers, were not ground faulted.
A 220 electrical outlet was missing the front cover, leaving the live
wires
of the recepticle exposed.
A hot water heater, placed on the rear exterior of the front trailer, was
exposed the elements, was
leaking water and was not plugged in to a ground faulted electrical outlet.
ABATEMENT NOTE: Among others, one feasible and acceptable means of
abatement would be to ensure that
all electrical wiring meets local building code, National Electrical Code
standards and, in the case of the hot
water heater, installed according to the manufacturer's specifications.
