Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing hazards when the wood framed wall that they were erecting fell backwards, striking and injuring one employee. Location: 93 North Main Street in Norwalk CT. Among others, one feasible and acceptable means of abatement would be to: 1) Use wall jack type devices in order to lift the wall. 2) Employees could use ropes to assist in the erection of the wall. 3) Employees could attach the base of the wall to prevent it from kicking/slipping out as the wall is raised.
