Section 6(a) of the Puerto Rico Occupational Safety and Health Act: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: Seccion 6(a) de la Ley de Seguridad y Salud en el Trabajo de Puerto Rico: El patrono no proveyo empleo y un sitio de empleo libre de riesgos reconocidos que esten causando o que puedan causar muerte o dano fisico a los empleados, por cuanto empleados estaban expuestos a: a)At the Scroll Shear power press operation in Impress Packaging of PR Inc., the employee feeds the press with steel sheets from one side and pick up the steel strips from the other side, the following ergonomics hazards were founded: 1.The employee was frequently observed bending his trunk forward and fully extending both his arms when loading the parts onto the wooden pallet, especially when first batches of the parts were placed on the rear side of the pallet. Awkward posture of the back and upper extremities were repeatedly adopted. 2.At the end of the loading process when the height of the pallet was about chest height of the operator, the employee was observed raising and abducting his shoulders when lifting, holding, and carrying the batches of the parts before placing them on the pallet's upper rows. Awkward posture of the shoulders and upper extremities were repeatedly adopted by the employee. 3.The employer did not have a mechanism in place that encouraged the early reporting of the signs and symptons of MSDS by employees and that encouraged employees to regulary stretch during rest breaks and pauses. Hazard: Awkward posture of the back and upper extremities, MSDs of the low back and lower extremities, contact stress among other. Among others methods of correction, various factible and acceptable methods for corrected these hazards are the following: 1.Evaluate the use of a lift-pallet positioner, mechanical equipment and/or workstation modfications or arragements, such as materials tables heigths and position in the work area for the job specific tasks involving the process of placing and loading the parts on the wood pallets. 2.Implement mechanism(s) and provide training that encourages the early reporting of the signs and symptoms of MSDS by employees and encourages employees to stretch during rest breaks and pauses a)En la operacion de la prensa Scroll Shear en Impress Packaging of PR Inc., el empleado alimentaba la prensa con hojas de aluminio por un lado y recogia las tiras de aluminio por el otro lado, los siguientes riesgos ergonomicos fueron encontrados: 1.El empleado frecuentemente fue observado doblando su tronco y extendiendo por completo sus brazos cuando cargaba el producto en la paleta de madera, especialmente cuando los primeros productos eran acomodados en la parte posterior de la paleta. Posturas extremas de la espalda y extremidades superiores eran adoptadas. 2.Al final del proceso de carga, cuando la altura de la paleta estaba cerca de la altura del pecho del operador, el empleado fue observado estirando y forzando sus hombros cuando levantaba, aguantaba y cargaba el producto antes de acomodarlos en las columnas superiores de la paleta. Posturas extremas de los hombros y extremidades superiores fueron repetidamente adoptadas. 3.El patrono no tenia establecido mecanismos para la notificacion temprana de signos y sintomas de los trastornos musculoesqueletales de los empleados, y para alentar el que los empleados se extiren durante los descansos y pausas. Riesgos: Posturas extremas de la espalda y extremidades superiores, problemas MSDs de la espalda baja y extremidades inferiores, estres por contacto, entre otros. Entre otros metodos de correccion, varios metodos factibles y aceptables para corregir estos riesgos son los siguientes: 1.Evaluar el uso de un "lift-pallet positioner", equipos mecanicos y/o modificaciones de estaciones de trabajo como la altura de las mesas de materiales y posicion en el area de trabajo para las tareas especificas relacionadas con el proceso de colocar y cargar las piezas en las paletas de maderas. 2.Implementar mecanismos y proveer adiestramientos que fomente la notificacion temprana de signos y sintomas de los trastornos musculoequeletales de los empleados y fomentar que los empleados durante los descansos y pausas se estiren.

Hazard: fatalities, injuries, and illnesses related to domestic violence in the workplace. Method to abate the hazard: Develop a written protocol to handle domestic violence in the workplace and provide training to all the employees. Information is available at the Women's Advocate Office. a)El patrono Impress Packaging of PR Inc. - No tenia un protocolo escrito para manejar situaciones de violencia domestica en el lugar de trabajo como se requirio por la Ley de Implementacion de un Protocolo de Situaciones de Violencia Domestica en el Lugar de trabajo o Lugar de Empleo, Ley No. 217 de 2006. Riesgo: fatalidades, lesiones y enfermedades relacionadas con la violencia domestica en el lugar de trabajo. Metodo para corregir este riesgo: Desarrollar un protocolo escrito para manejar situaciones de violencia domestica en el lugar de trabajo y proveer adiestramiento a los empleados.
