Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: (a)In the Clean Room; a "S" hook was used to create a faster change with the chain slings lifting castings. The "S" hook did not have the identification and rated load marking exposing employees to struck by hazards from potential overloading. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable means to correct these hazards are to use a safer alternate method such as: Follow the requirements as outlined in the American National Standard ASME B30.20 Below-The-Hook Lifting Devices Section 20-1.2: Marking, Construction, and Installation: 20-1.2.1 Marking (a)Rated Load. The rated load of the lifting device shall be marked on the main structure where it is visible. If the lifting device is made up of several lifters, each detachable from the group, these lifters shall be also marked with their individual rated loads. (b)Identification. A nameplate or other permanent marking shall be affixed displaying the following information: (1)manufacturer's name and address; (2)serial number; (3)lifter weight, if over 100 lb (45 kg); (4)rated load.ted
