Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fire and/or explosion hazards due to the storing of non-compatible chemicals together: (a)On or about November 28, 2007 at the worksite, non-compatible chemicals were being stored together in a flammable storage cabinet in the weld lab area. The cabinet contained 8 four liter glass containers of Methyl Ethyl Alcohol, 6 two and one half liter glass containers of 70Nitric Acid, 3 500 Gram containers of 98Ammonium Peroxydisulfate. Among others, one feasible and useful abatement method to correct this hazard is to: Maintain and store compatible chemicals in the same storage cabinet.
