Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing and/or struck/by hazards: (a) Location - Warehouse On or about 9/25/07, employees were exposed to hazards of being struck or crushed by falling boxes from steel frame racks. Among other methods, feasible means of abatement methods include: 1. To securely anchor the foot plate of every column on each pallet rack as per manufacturer's specifications. 2. To follow rack manufacturer recommendations regarding proper storage and use. 3. To instruct the employees of the approved rack load capacities, enabling them to verify the maximum amount of material that could be safely stored. 4. Replace missing crossbars and ensure crossbars are aligned prior to storing material on shelving.
