Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: Crete Cold Storage - Crete, NE - The employer is not furnishing employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious harm to employees in that employees are exposed to the hazards of falls when walking/working on the tops of tractor trailer tankers. On June 25, 2009, and at times prior to, an employee was exposed to a fall hazard greater than four (4) feet above lower levels, while working on top of a tanker trailer to perform tanker wash-outs, without the proper use of fall protection. The employee wore a harness connected to a retractable lifeline, but the chest strap of the harness was not connected. Feasible means of abatement may include but are not limited to the following: 1)Train employees on the correct usage of fall protection systems and the hazards associated with falls. 2)Develop work rules and disciplinary procedures prohibiting walking/working on tanker trailers without the correct usage of fall protection. 3)Follow harness/body belt manufacturer's (Miller) user instruction manual Section 3.2 on proper harness fit.
