General-duty citation text
29 CFR 5(a)1: of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees are exposed to crushing hazards. Upper mixing room in the facility located at 2100 N. Hwy 81, Norfolk, NE - The company is using overhead hoists to maneuver materials from one floor to the next in this area. The hook on the this hoist is missing the spring loading device on the safety latch necessary to ensure the load does not slip off of the hook during an unpredictable shift or stop of the equipment. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable methods of abatement are: 1) Ensure that the hooks on all overhead hoists are installed and maintained in serviceable condition. 2) Develop and implement an inspection protocol pertaining to the overhead hoists in the facility to ensure the hoists are kept in serviceable condition at all times. Abatement certification is required for this violation. The abatement certification sheet is enclosed with the citations.
