Occupational Safety and Health : 223. Duties: The employer did
not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free
from recognized hazards that would cause and/or would likely
cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that
employees were exposed to struck by hazards and at times prior
thereto, throughout the warehouse areas and/or in the
alternative;

Secure storage. Storage of material shall not create a hazard.
Bags, containers, bundles, etc., stored in tiers shall be
stacked, blocked, interlocked and limited in height so that they
are stable and secure against sliding or collapse.
Location: The Coca-Cola Company, Inc., 733 Hercules Drive,
Colchester, VT
Violation: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of
employment which was free from recognized hazards that would
cause and/or would likely cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees were exposed to struck by hazards and
at times prior thereto, throughout the warehouse areas, the
employer failed to ensure that steel storage rack components were
maintained properly and protected against damage on or about
January 04, 2010: a) At least one storage rack along one aisle
had damaged feet, legs and support columns due to being struck by
a forklift(s) and; b)  all columns were not anchored to the
floor.  Employees were exposed to struck by hazards from racks
and contents in the event of a collapse.
Among other methods, one method of abating this hazard is to
develop and implement a structural integrity program to
periodically inspect, repair and maintain storage racks as
recommended by the by Rack Manufacturers Institute
"Specifications for Design, Testing, and Utilization of
Industrial Steel Storage Racks." 2002 Edition (such as applicable
Section 1.4.1 & Section 1.4.7) and ANSI MH16.1:2008.
29 CFR 1903.19(c)(1) requires certification that the abatement of
the above violation is completed.
