What this inspection record means

OSHA opens inspections for many reasons: routine scheduling under a national or local emphasis program, an employee complaint or referral, or a follow-up after a reported injury. Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety & Health Act of 1970. The
employer did not
furnish to each of his employees a place of employment which was free from
recognized
hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical
harm to employees in
that employees were exposed to the hazards of falls from an elevation of
10-12 ft:
On or about 04 Mar 09, the employer did not ensure that a work platform,
used for aircraft
maintenance, was securely attached to the forks or the mast of a forklift,
to prevent it from
falling off the forks. This exposed employees to falls from an elevation
of 10-12 ft onto the
cement tarmac below.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard
would be to:
1) Utilize an aircraft mobile work platform that is constructed at the
correct height
and does not require a forklift to raise it into position.
DISCLAIMERS:
1)You are not limited to the abatement methods suggested above.
2)The methods explained are general and may not be effective in all cases.
3) The employer is responsible for selecting and carrying out an
appropriate method.
