Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to burns from a fire in dust collection equipment in the sheet metal shop. a) Hangar 55, Sheet Metal Shop Employees were exposed to a fire hazard from a Dayton 6C503 Dust Collector used with a Wilton 4200A Belt/Disc Sander on which aluminum, titanium and stainless steel were sanded. Violation observed on or about 5/22/08. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is the following: Utilize a dust collector designed for metal dust and installed according to NFPA 484.
