Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to the employees in that employees were exposed to struck by/caught between hazards from roof truss collapse during installation: a)Job site: On February 23, 2009, and at times prior, employees performing framing activities were exposed to approximately 50 trusses without sufficient top cord diagonal bracing and lateral bracing installed. NOTE 1)Feasible and acceptable methods of abatement to correct the hazard would be to follow the manufacturer's recommendations on roof truss erection and the Building Component Safety Information 2008 edition, Guide to Good Practice for Handling, Installing, Restraining & Bracing of Metal Plate Connected Wood Trusses. NOTE 2) Abatement certification required for this item.
