Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck-by hazard, when handling a load with a custom made, below the hook lifting device. a.Truck Crane: Employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by fallen materials, when using a spreader bar without markings as to identify the load capacity ratings. Abatement Note: Among other methods, one abatement method to correct this hazard is to: Inspect the lifting devices and rate and mark their load capacity ratings in accordance with ASME B30.20 - 1993 (Below the Hook Lifting Devices), Section 20-1.3 - Inspections and Section 20-1.2 - Marking and Construction.
