Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were exposed to falling loads due to the lack of safety latches on hoist hooks. a) Createc Corporation - Findlay, Ohio: On or about May 7, 2008, the employer did not ensure that the hook on the overhead (underhung) Coffing electric chain hoist located at press 71 was equipped with a safety latch, exposing employees to crushing injuries in that the load could be dislodged from the hook. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET).
