Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to amputation hazards in the event that a foot-operated tripping control was inadvertantly operated: (a) Shop Area. The 225 ton Cincinnati mechanical press brake had a foot-operated tripping control that was not guarded, on or about February 4, 2009. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to protect/guard the foot pedal so as to prevent accidental actuation by falling or moving objects, or by someone accidentally stepping on it. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM
