Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees exposed to crushing/ struck by hazard: (a)Between Lines 3 & 5 South of J Line - Employees were exposed to being struck or crushed by a falling bar joist that had sharp edges at the attachment point of the synthetic sling being used in a basket hitch to prevent it from being cut as determined on 3-17-09. NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard would be to follow ANSI B30.9 1971 section 9-5.5.1(i) Slings to ensure all sharp edges of material to be lifted by slings have padding or some type of protection installed at the attachment point to prevent the sling from being cut.
