Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by vehicle traffic? a.On or about January 27, 2008 at the USG Bridgeport Plant #850 Guard House, employees of The Wackenhut Corporation working as security guards at the USG Plant guard station, were not protected from being struck by vehicles such as tractor trailers passing by the guard station. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard i 1. Reroute the traffic to the opposite side of the guard station so that the guard can talk with the driver without crossing in front of the vehicle. 2. Install a gate thereby allowing the guard to safely cross in front of the vehicle to talk to the driver. 3. Move the stop sign back thereby allowing the guard to safely cross in front of the vehicle to talk to the driver. 4. Install a guardrail so that the guard must face the oncoming vehicle as they come off the guard house. 5. Provide and require the guards to wear reflective vests." 6. Re-design signs entering and exiting the facility such as but not limited to STOP sign.
