Labor and Employment Article, Section 5-104(a): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a)Date of Violation:11/27/07 Location:Chemistry Laboratory Condition:Water supply to the emergency shower and eyewash had been turned off at the source where employees prepared reagents, containing corrosive hydrochloric acid. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable methods to correct this hazard include returning water supply to the emergency shower and eyewash station, preventing unauthorized shutoff of the water supply, and ensuring that the water supply is capable of delivering sufficient volume for the required amount of time. Test eyewash regularly to ensure the proper flow rate is maintained. Abatement documentation (photographs, receipts, copies of programs, training certification, etc.) is required for this item.
