North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: a)Site: The employer did not implement a process to ensure frequent [at least monthly] inspections by a competent persons of the three Yale 2-Ton chain hoists installed and operated within the facility. REFERENCE:ANSI/ASME B30.11 - Monorails and Underhung Cranes: Chapter 11-2 - Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance: Section 11-2.1.2 - Frequent Inspections NOTE:Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to implement a monthly inspection program by a designated competent person of the Yale chain hoists covering the items listed in Section 11-2.1.2 of the cited ANSI Standard.
