License # H28XGQ. The rear of a utility trailer was used to transport
employees and
equipment. The utility trailer had no seats or seat belts which were
firmly secured and
adequate for the number of employees being transported. The employee sat
on the
trailer's top rail with his feet over the side during transport, and was
exposed to a fall
onto the roadway, on or about, 02/12/08.
ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD OF ABATEMENT WOULD BE TO:
Follow the National Safety Council's Accident Prevention Manual for
Industrial
Operations Engineering and Technology Tenth Edition Page 35, which
states;" Don't
allow anyone to stand on the running board or bed of a truck, or sit at
the side or end
of a flat bed truck. Provide seats for each person required to ride on
vehicle
equipment.Do not permit workers to ride on a loaded truck or other
machines not
equipped for the purpose".
