Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that, employees were exposed to 2nd degree burns and laceration hazards: Servers Area: On March 2nd, 2010, an employee was preparing a fresh pot of coffee utilizing an industrial coffee maker, when all indicating lights on the machine indicated that brewing cycle was complete the employee removed the cone that was still full of hot coffee. The employee sustained a second degree burns to her hand and arm. At the time of the injury the metal filter was not properly cleaned and was clogged preventing the brewed coffee to properly drain into the coffee pot. One feasible and acceptable method to correct the hazard is to provide training on the industrial coffee machine and explain what the function lights mean, how to properly clean the machine, and hazards associated with the coffee maker to all the employees who utilizes it.lizes
