Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees,
in that, employees
were exposed to explosion hazards:
Accurate Brazing of Connecticut: On or about March 8, 2010, an explosion
occurred in the
ductwork of an C.I. Hayes Belt Furnace. The employer had not ensured that
employees had not
received appropriate training in start-up procedures, the ductwork was
clogged, had not been
regularly inspected and had never been cleaned out.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard is
to follow that manufacturer's recommended and recognized and generally
accepted guidelines
which reference NFPA 86C: The Standard for Industrial Furnaces Using
Special Processing
Atmospheres.
