Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being struck by wood: a.On or about March 26, 2009, employees, operating the Coastal Planer, did not reduce the speed of the planer as they were stopping and toggling the planer from forward to reverse in an attempt to clear a jammed 2-inch by 4-inch by 12-foot piece of wood. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct the hazard is to ensure that the speed of the planer is reduced in accordance with the manufacturer's operation manual when clearing a jammed piece of wood. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION ARE REQUIRED.TION
