Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of falling from a ladder: (a) Location - Throughout facility: On or about 3/20/08, employees were exposed to fall hazards while working from a step ladder on which they were required to carry items. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard would be to: 1. Ensure that employees are trained in the safe use of a ladder consistent with the manufacturers' recommedations, including but not limited to, keeping three points of contact with the ladder at all times when ascending or decending and 2. Provide a means to hand boxes up or down from the ladder without a change in elevation by the employee while holding anything in their hand.
