Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to improperly braced roof trusses resulting in struck by hazards and blunt force trauma injuries from roof truss collapses: a) Frontier Lumber Co., Inc. Showroom at West 38th Street & Poplar Street - On or about April 2, 2009, employees were exposed to roof trusses that were not temporarily braced according to industry standards. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard would be to follow the Commentary and Recommendations for Handling, Installing & Bracing Metal Plate Connected Wood Trusses as prescribed by BCSI 1-03.
