General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck-by hazards from vehicle traffic in and around a highway work zone: On April 2, 2008, at the intersection of Monte Cristo Rd & the Southbound Frontage Road of US Highway 281, a safe work zone was not established. Employees worked in a pit next to the Monte Cristo roadway. Only one barrel was used to demarcate the work zone. Among other methods of abatement, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to establish safe work zones. Part 6, Temporary Traffic Control, Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, Millennium Edition, December 2000 provides guidance and information in creating and establishing safe work zones.
