Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to "struck by" falling wood trusses during installation:
a)  ABC Martinez Construction, 12201 Pecos Street, Westminster, CO:  On
or about 5/10/2009, employees installed approximately seventy five 62'
long pre-
fabricated wood trusses without adequate bracing.  Three employees were
hospitalized with serious injuries after the trusses collapsed.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct
this hazard is to install temporary and/or permanent bracing as shown in
the
Building Component Safety Information (BCSI) sheets delivered with the
trusses
to the jobsite. BCSI sheet B2 states to use the truss span to determine the
maximum "on center" spacing for the top cord temporary lateral restraint
bracing.
For trusses in excess of 60', the maximum "on center" top cord bracing
should
not exceed 4 feet.d
