Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck and/or crushed by automotive lift(s) in use with defects: a- Service Shop Area - The following automotive lifts were not maintained in good operating condition: a- Bay #1 Automotive Lift - Safety locks were not in proper operating condition. The handle knob was broken off. a- Bay #6 Automotive Lift - The handle knob was broken off. Condition noted on or about 08/29/08. Feasible and acceptable methods, among others, to correct this hazard is to: 1- Remove unsafe lifts from service until replacement and/or repairs are made.rs
