Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck by hazard: a) Main Service Bays: Lifts 1,2,3,4,5 and 6: Employees were operating vehicle lifts and working under loaded vehicle lifts without training. These vehicle lifts had not been properly inspected on their recommended maintenance (daily, monthly, semi-annually, etc). The maintenance that was done was not documented. Condition observed on or about 05/15/09. Among other methods, several feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct these hazards are to: 1.Utilize all safety features provided on the automotive lift, and operate the with the instructions furnished by the lift manufacturer. ANSI/ALI ALOIM-2000, Safety Requirements for Operation, Inspection and Maintenance, Section 4 and Challenger Lifts Inc's Manufacturer's Manual, Operation, Installation & Maintenance. 2.Ensure that operators operate the automotive lifts only after being properly instructed or trained and maintaining training documents in accordance with ANSI/ALI ALOIM-2000, Safety Requirements for Operation, Inspection and Maintenance, Section 4 and Challenger Lifts Inc's Manufacturer's Manual, Operation, Installation & Maintenance 3.Ensure that qualified maintenance personnel conduct required maintenance (daily, monthly, every 3 month, etc) and all service and repairs be documented and maintained in accordance with ANSI/ALI ALOIM-2000, Safety Requirements for Operation, Inspection and Maintenance, Section 6 and Challenger Lifts Inc's Manufacturer's Manual, Operation, Installation & Maintenance.
