Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a crushing hazard by improperly maintained auto lifts: a)Service Area:Benwil auto lift not inspected and maintained exposing the employee to a crushing hazard. Violation observed on or about 7/30/09. ABATEMENT NOTE:AMONG OTHER MEANS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD WOULD BE FOR THE COMPANY TO INSURE THAT ALL LIFTS ARE MAINTAINED IN ACCORDANCE WITH LIFT MANUFACTURES PROCEDURES ON A TIMELY BASIS. INSURE ALL LIFTS ARE PERIODICALLY INSPECTED ON A RECURRING BASIS BY A QUALIFIED INSPECTOR WHO IS QUALIFIED TO PERFORM THESE INSPECTIONS THROUGH EXPERIENCE IN INSTALLATION OR FIELD SERVICE WORK FOR USERS, MANUFACTURES, DISTRIBUTORS OR SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS FOR AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS. INSURE THAT ANY LIFT NEEDING MAINTENANCE OR REPAIRS IS TAKEN OUT OF SERVICE AND NOT USED UNTIL DEEMED MECHANICALLY SAFE. INSURE LIFT OPERATORS INSPECT THE LIFTS ON A DAILY BASIS.
