North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing/amputation hazards: a)facility, kill floor area - the emergency stop for a take away inedible conveyer was located at the floor level approximately 13 feet below the work station which was accessible only by a 18 vertical ladder. [Ref: American National Standard [ANSI B20.1 - 1976 para;5.11.2.3] Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to provide a emergency stop switch within reach.
