Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to:
Being struck by vehicles due to poor illumination.
On or about 4/29/09, and times prior thereto, in the parking area on the
west side of the facility,
the employer did not ensure that adequate illumination was being
maintained for employees
walking from the employee parking area located on the north side of the
property to the office
building located on the south end of the property.  The employees were
exposed to being struck
by the trucks moving through this area.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means to abate this
hazard is to provide
lighting within the yard and parking areas in accordance with ANSI/IESNA
RP7-01, "American
National Standard Practice for Industrial Lighting".
Pursuant to 29 CFR 1903.19, the employer must provide certification and
documentation of
abatement of this item.
