Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: Being struck by and/or crushed by falling aircraft engines and/or parts. On or about 4/7/10 in the Test Cell area, employees were exposed to being struck by and/or crushed by falling aircraft engines and/or parts that were suspended from the gantry cranes. The employer did not ensure that employees were trained on the safe handling of the loads and the operation of gantry cranes. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means to abate this hazard is to develop and implement a training program in accordance with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers USAS B30.2.0-1967 requirements for Overhead and Gantry Cranes. Pursuant to 29 CFR 1903.19, the employer must submit an abatement plan within 25 days describing the actions it is taking to ensure compliance, including a description of how these steps have provided training for operators of gantry cranes throughout the facility.t
