Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to chemical burns while transferring chemicals: Location - 63 Water Street, Fall River, MA 02722: On 8/28/08, an employee was transferring a load of concentrated nitric acid from a tank trailer to a storage tank when the chemical transfer hose ruptured and sprayed the employee with nitric acid. Among other methods, one feasible and accepted abatement method to correct this hazard is to follow the Rubber Manufacturers Association's IP-11-7 "Manual for Maintenance, Testing, and Inspection of Chemical Hose".
