Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970; The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards which were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that, employees were exposed to electrical shock from several electrical cords that had defective strain reliefs and improper splices: a) On or about May 22, 2008 employees were exposed to injury in that, several electrical cords had defective strain reliefs and improper splices. Among other methods, a feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to develop a prior to use inspection program for all flexible cords used in the work place. Damaged cords then can be taken out of service until properly repaired or replaced. Abatement Note: Abatement certification and documentation is required for this item (see enclosed "Sample Abatement-Certification Letter").
