Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish to each of his employees employment or a place of employment which
were free
from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or
serious physical harm
to employees in that employees were exposed to being struck and burned by
molten metal:
a)On or about May 6, 2008, and at times prior, employees in the plant were
exposed to being struck by and burned by molten metal splash in the area
around the induction furnaces.  No hazardous zone had been designated or
marked to limit access to the area around the furnaces, when operating, to
authorized personnel.
Among other methods, a feasible and acceptable method to correct this
hazard would
be to designate a hazardous area around the furnaces with signs and color
codings that
meet the requirements of American National Standard Institute (ANSI)
Standard
Z241.2, "Safety Requirements for Melting and Pouring of Metals in the
Metalcasting
Industry."
