Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970; The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment  which was free from
recognized hazards
which were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in
that, employees
were exposed to falls from moving vehicles:
a) On or about May 21, 2008 an employees was exposed to injury while
placing traffic cones
on Highway 50, west of Canon City, CO, employees were not restrained from
falling from
the platform on the side of a moving vehicle.
Among other methods, a feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct
this hazardous
condition would be: 1) To install an anchorage point on the side and back
of the vehicles for
connection of a restraint system consisting of a full body harness and
lanyard. 2) Install
standard guardrail system on the platform where employees stand to place
and
remove the
traffic cones or other traffic control devices. 3) Utilize an automatic
cone placement and
retrieval system.

this item
