Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by unsecured compressed gas cylinders: (a)On or about 6/26/08, at the site, employees were exposed the hazard of being struck by two unsecured compressed gas cylinders containing propane gas. The cylinders were not secured to prevent them from being knocked over. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods are to: 1. Follow the Compressed Gas Association Pamphlet P-1-1965, in which, section 3.4.4 states before using cylinders, be sure it is properly supported to prevent it from being knocked over. 2. Use a suitable cylinder truck, chain or other steadying device to keep cylinders from being knocked over. Disclaimer: 1. You are not limited to the abatement methods suggested above. 2. The methods explained are general and may not be effective in all cases. 3. The employer is responsible for selection and carrying out an appropriate abatement method.nt
