Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm, including severe burns, to employees in that employees were exposed to dust explosion, deflagration, or other fire hazards from a dust collector being located inside a building, and by failure to provide proper safeguards for a second dust collector located outside of the building with exhaust air recycled back to the building: a) Coral Dust Collector at Wide Belt Sander: Employees working in the area were not protected from a potential dust explosion hazard as the dust collector which collects explosive wood dust at the sander (which has a mechanical material feed), was located inside the building on or about November 19, 2008. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to relocate the dust collector to the outside area per NFPA 664, 8.2.2.5.1.4 (1). b) Murphy-Rodgers Dust Collector: Employees working in the shop were not protected from a potential dust explosion hazard as the dust collection system which collects combustible dust was not equipped with required safeguards, having exhaust air recycled back into the building, on or about November 19, 2008. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to comply with NFPA 664, 8.2.2.6.1 (1) or (2). ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION REQUIREDATION
