General-duty citation text

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to the release of toxic vapors, fire and explosions:
Plating room: Incompatible materials were being stored together in the
plating
room whereby there was approximately 65 gallons of hydrogen peroxide stored
on wooden (organic) pallets alongside approximately 45 gallons of sodium
cyanide whereby the mixing of these two chemicals may cause fire and
explosions
and where the hydrogen peroxide, when in contact with organic materials
such
as the wooden pallets it was being stored on, may cause spontaneous
combustion;
there were eight gallons of ammonia and five gallons of stannous chloride
stored
together whereby the mixing of these two chemicals has the potential to
form
toxic vapors. Each of these hazardous conditions may result in death or
serious
physical harm to employees. Among other methods, one feasible and
acceptable
abatement method would be to separate the incompatible chemicals by an
appropriate distance.
