Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazards of striking against the vertical lift in the event of a sudden drop: (a) In that the employer did not ensure that the vertical lifts were inspected and maintained annually in compliance with all manufacturer recommendations or the written policy of the U.S. Postal Service. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to address this hazard is to (a) follow ANSI standard A92.6-1990 for Self-Propelled Elevating Work Platforms.
