Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fire and explosion hazards: (a)O'Malley Wood Products, Gardners, PA - The fan(s) used to convey combustible wood dust particles from the notcher, band re-saw, etc. were not located on the clean air side of the collection system(s), thereby exposing the employees to a fire and/or explosion hazard. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to comply with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 664, "Standard for the Prevention of Fires and Explosions in Wood Processing and Woodworking Facilities" (2007 edition) as it applies to your operation and equipment including but not limited to the following: *Install fans and blowers on the clean air side of the collectors, regardless of moisture content or particle size of the material conveyed. (Section 8.2.2.4.2. (1)) VERIFICATION REQUIREDTION
